I'm Austyn — most people call me Auzzie. I've been behind the chair eleven years, I'm licensed in Texas as both a cosmetologist and a barber, and I run this studio alone: one chair, one client at a time, by appointment.

Every appointment — barbering or body grooming — is with me, start to finish. No rotating staff, no walk-in traffic, nobody else in the room. I want you to walk out confident, proud of how you look, with some pep in your step.

Two licenses, on purpose

There are plenty of barbers. Most hold one license or the other. I wanted the formal training in both worlds before I called myself a barber, because I didn't want a limit on what I could do. Long cuts, short cuts, fades, shaves, color, wax — if it's cutting or removing hair, I'm trained and licensed for it.

I started using a straight razor consistently in 2018 and practiced with it for years before I was licensed to use one on a client. That meant plenty of cuts on myself and a lot of practice on family, until I earned my barber license in 2024 and could go in front of the state board and show what I could do.

That combination lets me confidently handle a wide range of cuts, styles, textures, and grooming — from classic looks to modern fades and detailed razor work. I take real pride in my shaves, lineups, and skin fades.

From every angle

I've also managed three shops — each one its own story — so I've learned this trade from every angle: the chair, the team, the schedule, the follow-through. Now I run one independent studio in Lewisville, by appointment only, with full control over my schedule and quality. No rush jobs, no corporate pressure — just consistent, high-quality work, and I'm happier than ever behind the chair.

Why one chair

I've worked in shops where the push was quantity over quality — the last one for three years, until 2025. Then I went out on my own, and in August 2026 I moved into this suite. I've always been about quality. I take my time, I talk to people, and I put a seven-day guarantee on my work because I'm that confident in it. That doesn't fit a ten-chair shop.

It also doesn't fit what I do now. Nobody is comfortable taking his shirt off for a back trim, or his pants off for a groom, in a room full of people. A private suite gives you privacy and discretion, and it gives me full control over how long I take, how high the quality is, and what it costs.

Where body grooming came from

About six years in, I realized how many men wanted this and had nowhere to go. There aren't many grooming options for men, done by men. Guys are afraid to ask their barber to clean up a back they can't reach. Not everybody has a partner willing to do it. And the places that will do it are miles away, rushed, or want $200.

So men try it themselves, can't get the angle with a razor, nick themselves — some have the scars to show for it — and decide they just have to live with it. You don't. I'm around hair all day; it doesn't bother me where it is, and it trims the same. I can see you head to toe, which you can't. That's the whole idea.

The first one

My first body-grooming client booked a full intimate shave. I was terrified I'd do something wrong, and I didn't know what to say at first. Then I remembered how long I'd been doing this: there's nothing I haven't seen, and it's just hair. I got focused the same way I do on a haircut — do exactly what the client asked for. It took a little longer that first time, and that's okay. You don't want someone rushing through certain areas.

About the wax

My first experience with wax was in school at Paul Mitchell. A friend wanted to wax a straight beard line onto my cheeks. She let it set, pulled it, and my first reflex was to swing — I actually hit her. I hugged her and apologized, and we both laughed about it. So I know exactly what that first pull feels like.

I've been waxing professionally for the past three or four years, and I really enjoy it. There's something satisfying about watching hair go from spiky to smooth, and the skin stays soft for two to three weeks. I wax my own nose and ears, and sometimes over my tattoos so they show up more vibrant.

What I won't cut corners on

Quality, precision, and the consultation. I ask a lot of questions because I need to know exactly what you want. If something isn't going to suit your hair or your texture, I'll tell you straight — and then it's your call. You're the client. You're the boss. I work for you.

The other one is comfort. Before anything comes off, we go over what you booked, you point to the areas with your clothes on, and I explain how the appointment will go. I step out or turn around while you get undressed to your comfort level, anything we're not working on stays covered, and we only do what you asked for. Talk the whole time, or bring your phone and be in your own world — I'll match you either way.

And I won't rush you to get to the next guy. If I'm running behind, the next client gets a text from me.

It's not always about the hair

One of my clients watched me cut my own hair for years. The deal was that I couldn't touch theirs until I had a license. I took that as a challenge, and I've been cutting that hair for eleven years now.

Another came in a few years ago sad and unsure of himself. I've watched him turn into a confident, outgoing guy who knows what he's worth. He's a buddy now. Others have moved away, gotten married, become fathers. Some just need somebody to talk to for an hour.

I take notes, I remember, and I follow up, so when you come back it isn't starting over. The cut never suffers for it. But sometimes the conversation is the bigger part of the appointment, and I'm glad to be that for people.

Off the clock

Army brat. Born in Alaska, lived in Virginia, California, Kansas and Alabama, and a Texan for seventeen years — there's no place I'd rather be. (Alaska is still awesome.) Married, with four pugs and a Catahoula shepherd at home. Dr Pepper first, iced coffee always.

I stepped away for a stretch in 2021 and 2022 to build an online business, and I'm an electrician apprentice on the side — I'm a little all over the place. But I came back to the chair in 2022, and it's the one I always come back to.

2016 — Licensed cosmetologist, Paul Mitchell, San Diego.
2018 — picked up the straight razor and never put it down.
3 shops — managed; each its own story.
2019 — opened his own chair as Auzzie's Barbershop.
2021–22 — stepped away to build an online business, then came back to the chair.

Which haircut should I choose?

Almost every haircut is "The Haircut" at $45 — scissor or clipper, any length, finished right. Choose "The Bald / Skin / Razor Fade" if you want the closest razor-finished fade. Want the beard done in the same sitting? Book "The Haircut & Beard" — both services, $65. Unsure? Book the closest fit and describe your goal in the notes; we confirm the plan before we start. Military, veterans, first responders, or medical? Book "The Hero Cut" — the same full haircut at $35.

Do I need to tip?

No. Every service is priced so gratuity is already included. Extra is always appreciated, but it's never expected or needed. The price is the price.

Is there a discount for military or first responders?

Yes — The Hero Cut: the full $45 haircut at $35 for military, veterans, first responders, and medical professionals. Thank you for your service. Please have ID at your appointment. One discount per visit — it doesn't stack with other offers.

What if I notice something after I leave?

Text within seven days of your appointment. Adjustments to my work are handled at no charge.

Can you take an after-hours or overnight appointment?

Sometimes. I have 24/7 access to the suite. Text the date, time, and service you need; availability and the final rate are confirmed before the appointment.

Where exactly is the suite?

Flat & True Men's Grooming Studio is inside Venus Salon Suites at 4770 State Hwy 121, Ste 180, Lewisville, TX 75056. Your booking text has the suite number inside and step-by-step directions to the door, and 2 hours before your appointment you'll get a text — reply YES to confirm. Booked without texts? Your email has a link to confirm, and confirming sends you the suite number.

Don't you need an esthetician license for waxing?

No. In Texas, the practice of barbering and cosmetology includes "removing superfluous hair from a person's body using depilatories, preparations or chemicals, tweezers, or other devices or appliances of any kind" (Occupations Code § 1603.0011(a)(6)), and a barber or cosmetology operator license may perform any of those services (§ 1603.2103). An esthetician license is a narrower specialty license — it covers only part of that same list. Everything here is done under full Texas barber and cosmetology licenses, 11+ years. Is body grooming 18+ only? What about haircuts?

Body grooming services are strictly for adults 18 and over. Barbering is open to everyone — The Whippersnapper covers kids 12 & under.

How do I pay?

Nothing is paid on this website. Accepted: cash, Square (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay — on Square's secure page, pay link here), tap to pay at the visit, Zelle and Cash App. Nothing is charged when you book a studio visit; mobile visits need a non-refundable deposit paid online through Square (see Mobile visits). We never see or store your card number.
